Lost Sayings of the Jedi Christian 2

No East or West.

Carlos Santana recently said, “I’m an earth citizen. I feel I can relate to kids in Hong Kong as well as Tijuana. Being Mexican is not all I am. I am Hebrew, I am Palestinian, I am everything. I can grasp the concept of absoluteness. I can go to Africa or Cuba or Brazil or Geneva and be part of the family, not just a tourist. I’m not one aisle in the Safeway; I’m the whole store.”

Of course, you recognize that he has stolen a page from our book! Because all humans are created in God’s image we too are citizens of the earth and share a common heritage with people of every race and language. But Jesus also reminded us of a citizenship with those in the kingdom of God. 2000 years ago Jedi Christian Master Paul said, “as many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.

Absolute Truth

Stephen Simon is on a spiritual journey and it shows in films he produced like Somewhere in Time and What Dreams May Come. Recently he said to me, “I do not believe that there can ever be a universal truth when it comes to matters of faith. Where I have a major problem is when I am told that I am wrong and that my beliefs are in violation of any ¢â‚¬Ëœtrue’ faith. It is precisely that kind of bigotry that has started most of the major conflagrations of history. Once any group thinks they are the only true believers, people usually die for holding other beliefs.

As Jedi Christians we believe there is absolute truth ands that God has revealed it in various ways. Because it is written in our heart even Stephen Simon believes there is absolute truth because he is asserting that he has discovered one in his belief that there are none!

Jesus taught truth, but more importantly Jesus claimed to BE TRUTH. Truth then, has a rational aspect, but it also, occupies a mystical, relational dimension with the living Christ,

Those who embrace Jesus as truth know his essential teaching was to love and those of us who love will not kill those who don’t embrace this truth. Jedi Christians know the truth and bear it lovingly in word and deed.

My Dark Side

Every Jedi Christian knows that since the beginning we are at war with the dark side. And the wise also understand that darkness is not just elsewhere, but wrestles within us and seeks to do us harm. In playing Hannibal Lector, Anthony Hopkins has come to understand this better than most. He said, “Lecter is the dark side of every human being. Hannibal makes people face up to their lies and their shadows and the dark sides of themselves. We are fascinated by the darkness in ourselves, we are fascinated by the shadow, we are fascinated by the bogeyman.”

Our fascination with the dark side is part of its seducing power. We claim to love the light and walk in it, but we are prone to wander. That is why Jesus prayed for us, “”I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I ask you to protect them from the evil one.” And he taught us to pray daily “lead us not into temptation and deliver is from evil.”

The culture’s fascination with evil and the dark side mirrors our own. So we walk in the light humbly, because we know how close we are to slipping into darkness.
