13 Going on 30. Preaching the U2 Catalog & Jesus 2004

13 Going on 30, Preaching U2 & Jesus 2004

Read my review of 13 Going on 30, Jennifer Garner’s new film is released this week. Virtually every critic will comment on the dreadful formulaic script and plot development reminiscent of Tom Hanks’ “Big,” offset by equally engaging performances from Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo¢â‚¬¦. Look folks, Casablanca this ain’t, but given the context of racier fare young kids are accustomed to, this is seismic in its “say yes to simpler,” more decent times. AND the moral of the story leaves kids pondering the choices they are making now and desiring to make better ones. My review explores four ways media handles evil.

U2 has delivered some of the most provocative spiritual lyrics in all of popular music, Many communicators are using U@ in sermons. Here is the audio and transcript of Beth Maynard’s book on preaching through the U2 catalog.

Finally, Ed Winkle called and suggested an Esquire magazine article on Jesus 2004. It is a well and fairly written description of the range of contemporary beliefs about Jesus.

Yours for the pursuit of God in the company of friends, Dick Staub.

PS. And remember, “these are the best of times and the worst of times, but they are the only times we have.” (For Now).
