June 29th, 2004

I’ve been telling you about the C.S. Lewis Conference and doing so on the run as I am still in Southern California and STILL on the run!

Yesterday I shared with you my appreciation for Nigel Goodwin (Foto right)…Today I bring you some Nigelisms:

“We know Mr. Nasty (The Devil) was near The Great ARTIST (God) at creation, but he can’t create. He can’t create a star for instance…He CAN create a Hollywood Star!”

“This generation has lost objectivity in its quest for subjectivity. We need both.”

“We often speak of needing heart and mind, but we also need the gut. The prophets spoke from the gut.”

“For the inklings the Pub became the Hub.”

Quoting Rookmacher. “God did not save us to be Christian, but to be human.”

“Everyone Jesus knew and touched had a radical moment, but in the intimacy of the circle (the disciples) was a banquet not an appetizer.”

“To be a fan is to be enthusiastic. To be a fanatic is to be excessively enthusiastic. To be fantastic is to be beyond the ordinary.” (The Conference was about the fantastic worlds of Lewis and Tolkien.”

“Truth without grace is legalism. Grace without truth is romanticism. Truth with grace is dynamism.”

A blind man comes to Jesus and Jesus asks: "What do you want me to do for you?" It seems the answer is obvious, but for so many the question is, "do you want to be healed," and based on their decisions it appears the answer is no. It really is a central question for each of us: do we want to be healed?

Yours for the pursuit of God in the company of friends, Dick Staub.

PS. And remember, “these are the best of times and the worst of times, but they are the only times we have.” (For Now).
